Honolulu online job ads up 12% in May
Online advertising for employment was down across most of the country in May, but job listings in Honolulu were up, according to a report by The Conference Board released Monday.
A total of 10,100 jobs in the Honolulu area were advertised on Internet job boards in May, up 12.2 percent from 9,000 during May 2007. The latest figure includes 7,800 jobs that were newly posted during the month, up 32.2 percent from the 5,900 new ads posted in May 2007.
Honolulu's rates were substantially better than the national averages, which experienced declines. The national volume of online employment listings fell 13.2 percent in May, and the number of new jobs being advertised fell 2.5 percent.
The Conference Board is a nonprofit research organization based in New York City. It has been monitoring online employment advertising since May 2005.
