American Airlines warns of 469 layoffs

American Airlines Inc. has sent warn notices informing workers in different cities of pending layoffs that will impact 469 employees, a spokeswoman for American confirmed Thursday morning.

None of the effected positions is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Tami McLallen with Fort Worth-based American, a subsidiary of AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR), says the pending layoffs will impact airport service employees—mostly agents and fleet service clerks—working in the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham, Columbus, Ohio; and, Chicago.

McLallen says most of the staff reductions will take place in Chicago, with 300 positions scheduled for elimination there. Los Angeles will rank second in job losses with 53 staff reductions anticipated.
