Embarq Corporation Plans to layoff 500 – 700 Employees

[Best Syndication News] Phone company, Embarq Corp. announced today that they will be downsizing their employees by 500-700 job positions with 300 of these jobs being contract positions. The company was a spinoff off two years ago from Sprint Nextel Corporation.

The reason for the downsizing and laying off these workers is due to the slow economy and the changes in consumers habits. In the past it was a given that a household would have a traditional landline in their home. Nowadays, homes may not have any as they opt to only have a mobile wireless phone for their primary and only phone service.

Embarq does have a large workforce of 17,000, which will only equate to 3 - 4 percent of the workforce being cut. The company is focusing on insuring that they provide adequate workforce to the amount of customers to improve their profitability.

The company is based in Overland Park, Kansas and the jobs that are to be eliminated are going to come from the Network Services organization. This is the group that installs and maintains the companies networks.

The company asked managers and supervisors to take a voluntary buyout and they will also be asking the regular works to do the same in hopes of preventing the layoffs.

Embarq previously announced in June that they will be transferring 256 of their employees over along with four technical service centers to Nokia Siemens Networks. They also announce in that time that they were planning on closing three customer call centers which has 210 employees.
