Sony Ericsson Layoffs Hit 450 in NC

We all knew they were coming, those 2,000 Sony Ericsson (SNE) job cuts, but it sure stinks to watch them happen.

Approximately 450 Sony Ericsson employees in North America will lose their positions, the company said yesterday; the cuts are taking place at the company’s R&D unit in North Carolina. Amid plummeting profits, Sony Ericsson the past two quarters has said it will have to shed workers worldwide from the payroll.

The company blamed the weak economy and slowing demand for high-end mobile devices as just two of the reasons for the layoffs.
