Wabash Co. manufacturer to lay off 164
Dexter Axle Co. intends to lay off 164 workers as it closes its fabricated structural metal manufacturing operations in North Manchester, according to a filing with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Operators and assembly line workers at the Wabash County manufacturer are among those losing jobs around Feb. 2, according to the layoff notice filed by the company.
Officials at the Elkhart-based company could not immediately be reached for comment.
That wasn't the only Indiana company to announce job losses.
>> Aleris International, Inc. announced today that it will be permanently closing its Tipton, Ind. specification alloys facility, effective today. As previously announced, production at this facility was idled on March 30. The facility had employed approximately 55 people.
>> SourceNet, Inc., a temporary staffing company, is laying off 47 housekeepers and one clerk in East Chicago, after a contract involving steelmaker ArcelorMittal was canceled. The contract ends Friday.
