Longaberger Lays Off 113 At Headquarters
By: George Hiotis
A major layoff at the Longaberger Company was announced today.
The basket making company announced a white-collar cutback of 113 jobs at the corporate headquarters in Newark.
This layoff will affect professional and salaried employees.
The company says the cutbacks started today and will occur through reduction of current staff, elimination of open positions and attrition.
Longaberger Company at one time had 8000 employees, now it’s down to about 3000.
Chief Operating Officer Jim Gimeson says while these are difficult decisions, they will ensure that Longaberger remains on track with its growth agenda.
Gimeson added that this move amounts to fine-tuning Longaberger’s efforts to better match future direction.
By streamlining, he says Longaberger will lower cost and narrow focus to those initiatives that lead to a sustainable growth.
