Layoffs Begin At Katahdin Paper Mill

MILLINOCKET (NEWS CENTER) -- A spokesperson for the Katahdin Paper Mill said almost a dozen mill workers have already been laid off. Glenn Saucier said the rest of the 208 layoffs will take place over the next two to three weeks.

"The mill is going into a winterization mode," Saucier said.

Rapid response and community response teams are taking care of the laid off workers.

The mill in East Millinocket will remain open, but many workers there will be "bumped" by more experienced workers from the Millinocket mill.
