Jobs data shows strong NSW economy: govt
Unemployment in NSW has edged up from 33-year lows to 4.3 per cent in June.
The latest national jobs figures, released on Thursday, show that 34,300 full-time jobs were lost last month.
But more than 1,100 residents a week, on average, still entered the workforce in the past year, said NSW Treasurer Michael Costa.
He said that in NSW, employment was at record levels and the unemployment rate was the lowest since June 1981.
"In 2006-07, employment in NSW grew by more than 58,000 jobs, an increase of 1.8 per cent on the previous financial year," he said.
"That's more than 1,100 jobs a week."
"Today's figures demonstrate once again the strength and soundness of the NSW economy."
