Report: 2000s fared well for Hawaii job growth
Hawaii was among the top 10 states that prospered during the Bush administration, according to a new report.
A study by PBN’s online partner, bizjournals, analyzed state and metropolitan employment trends during the Bush and Clinton administrations.
Hawaii was 8th in the nation under President George W. Bush, with a 13.8 percent growth rate in private sector job growth since 2000. Hawaii ranked 51st, when including Washington, D.C., under President Bill Clinton, with a growth rate of less than 1 percent from 1992 to 2000.
Wyoming ranked No. 1 under Bush, with 25.4 percent growth in the private sector, meanwhile Nevada was No. 1 under Clinton with 63 percent growth.
Honolulu was 100th out of the 100 largest metropolitan areas under the Clinton administration with a 3 percent decline in private-sector job growth from 1992 to 2000. Under Bush, Honolulu ranked 22nd, with 11 percent growth.
Las Vegas was No. 1 for private-sector job growth under both administrations.
The nation added 21.3 million jobs while Clinton was in office, compared to 3.9 million jobs during Bush’s presidency.
Bizjournals used private-sector employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to develop the study. The report is available here.
