June, 2006

June, 2006

It’s good to be a job hunter in the US!

In almost every sector, labor shortages are the norm. The US unemployment rate is under 5%. For technology professionals, the rate is under 2%--despite all the threatening stories about outsourcing that have appeared the past few years.

The most interesting confirmation of the surge in employment was a recent article I read in The New York Sun by Liz Peek called “College Grad Prospects Bright.” Employers were planning to increase college grad hiring by more than 13% and in the service sector by more than 17%!

Yes its boom time.

And the scare stories about immigration, the collapse of the real estate market or rising gas prices haven’t changed the direction of the US economy.

Yes, there are pockets of struggle but the fact is that the economy is running on all cylinders.

Keep your skills and experience strong and focus on what you need to do to stay marketable. After all (platitude coming) all good things come to an end.
